A divorced mother and her headstrong daughter must make an emergency late-night road trip to see the girl's father. As they drive through deserted country roads on a steamy night, they suddenly have a startling collision that leaves them shaken but not seriously hurt. Their car, however, is dead, and as they try in vain to get help, they come to realize they are not alone on these desolate backroads. A terrifying evil is lurking in the surrounding woods, intent on never letting them leave.

One could argue that the overall story is a different take on Cujo ... one could also argue that Steven King is a financially opportunistic dried up old liberal hack with better marketing than writing, but that wouldn't be hard when he volunteers so much. The first 30 minutes of this piece took an hour -- it felt like the beginning was dragging and yet provided important exposition. Interestingly, only about 1/2-a-dozen characters/actors/people are ever seen on-screen, which to me spoke to the the girl's emotional isolation around her single alcoholic mother (yeah ... I guess the description above didn't want to risk saying 'alcoholic') when the suggestion is that she has a more healthy/happy/nourishing home with her father. If you're a fan of Aaron Douglass it's hard to tell that he's on the screen. I realized watching this that probably more money was spent on vehicles (including the ambulance interior which was a set), the monster costume, and fake rain than anything else. In the end you can tell that the monster costume is a costume but it still works quite well -- almost to where I wondered that the creature was an imaginary bugaboo of the girl's inner-challenges. Only 12 people will truly understand this film.

Not a bad movie
Kept my attention wanting to see how it ends.
Monster sucked, but was adequate enough for this movie
