This was a recommendation on a list of comics with POC and/or Queer leads - both of which Dom is - and I gotta say, I loved it. Never been a big Motocross fan, so I had worried I wouldn't understand things. But the writing style made everything simple and easy to follow, it was really easy for me to hear Domino's voice (I can't stop giggling about the name though, it reminds me of another popular fictional street racer), the only part where things were a little hard to get was when Lola the mechanic was explaining things but that was done on purpose, since Dom didn't understand it either.

At first glance Dom seems like an ordinary racer trying to keep her dad's business alive, perhaps even an adrenaline junkie since she does street racing. I honestly thought she was racing for drugs and got a little disappointed at first, but Crush - the stuff she races for, the stuff she takes as medicine - is the same stuff other racers use to supe their rides. It's that moment where Lan is forced to drink Crush and dies brutally that it reveals there's more to Dom that meets the eye. The art is beautiful, the characters are wonderfully diverse, the relationship she has with her dad is so sweet, the mystery of who she is and who her mysterious benefactor keeps me wanting more. It hooked me in and I'm excited to read the next volume.
