With The Truth About Happily Ever After, Cozzo takes a closer look at the distinction between reality and fairytales. Our leading lady, Alyssa Callahan, has been living in her own fairytale: steady boyfriend, supportive friends, and a job at her favourite theme park with the honour of portraying the well-loved princess, Cinderella. But when things take a huge turn, Alyssa soon finds herself thrown out of her fairytale and facing the trials of reality. With help from her friend Miller, Alyssa tackles her new challenges head on, as she works to find herself. At the same time, she comes to appreciate the beauty in her reality – one that was often clouded by dreams for her own fairytale ending.

I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. It was a bit predictable, yes, but it is definitely at the top of the list among many contemporary books I have read. I love that the book tackles things many of us experience – balancing reality and fairytale expectations, as well life disappointments, and being labelled by others. There is greater depth to a person than the single label thrown at them, and real life is not always going to follow closely with fairytales, where outcomes may not be as we expect. However, from Alyssa appreciating her own unwritten fairytale, to her breaking out of a stereotype placed by others, Cozzo emphasizes the beauty in the unexpected. Things don't turn out as great as we want, yet we should not be discouraged; it could simply mean that life has something much better for us down the road."
