Sabrina Jeffries can be a bit hit-or-miss for me, since her stories tend to slightly run together in my mind, but this might be my favorite of hers. The hero and heroine are both well-drawn characters who stand out from other characters she has written in the past, and the obstacles to their happiness, while as melodramatic as one might expect from a historical romance, still feel like valid issues for them to grapple with. Their back-and-forth sparring was my favorite part of the previous book in the series, in which they were both secondary characters, and I was glad to discover that their book lived up to my expectations.
