I have mixed feelings about this book. Although I didn't care for the writing style, I did like the historical part of the book. I was not aware of the Italian migration to Australia. In fact, I liked Giuseppe's story better than Cassie's. First time I've read this author. The book jacket indicates she trained as journalist. I can definitely see that in her writing style. The story is presented in a non-emotional way that keeps the reader at a distance from the characters. A bit long and slow going, but I liked it enough to finish it.

Quick and easy chick lit read. Its saving grace was its setting on the south coast of N.S.W.

I was very disappointed by this author, especially after all her professional citations on the back of the book. I did not see any indicator that this was geared toward youth, but it seems to be. The sentences are short and very simple. The range and expression of emotions are simplistic. After about half-way I gave up in boredom. I would recommend this book to persons in the 6th grade.
