A clever and funny Italian detective television series! Very enjoyable and beautiful locations all around Italy. A hit with my family!

The detective breaks my heart (joking) as he finally betrays his girlfriend by cheating with another woman (Angelica). Who, naturally, as the evil temptress, winds up in the hospital. I'll probably continue to watch this series, keeping in mind it depicts another culture--the constant bevy of beautiful women who throw themselves at Salvo is a very male Italian fantasy (no one seems to care about morals or AIDS, etc.)

Detective Montalbano solves his crimes in the town of Vigata. The scenery of the Sicilian city of Ragusa is beautiful and peaceful. I like all of his detective series.

One of my favorite detective stories. It has the Italian flavor, but it also has a real story in each one of the episodes, not the usual car chase criminal stories that are so prevalent now. Each episode is markedly different, and some of them tackle the Mafia, but the present problems that Italy is facing right now (the tremendous influx of people from North Africa by boat).

I like to watch all kinds of detective and mystery movies. Just by chance I found this DVD in the Millbrea Library . Commissario Montalbano had sense of humor and was clam in handling different cases, I begin to like this Italian detective series, also the film was taken in the peaceful and attractive Sicilian city of Ragusa.

Episode 7. The Sense of Touch After the demise of two blind men, an investigation focuses on how a charity is operating.
Episode 8. Montalbano's Croquettes
Two people are found dead in their car, leading to an investigation by Montalbano. This man loves to eat! :)
Episode 9. The Scent of the Night
An investor disappears with people's savings, leading Montalbano to investigate.

Absolute love this Italian detective series -- both the DVDs and the books. Andrea Camilleri is a wonderful, skillful writer and the actors' personalities are fun and there is often humor along with the danger. The architecture, town setting, Montalbano's home by the sea all make me want to pack a suitcase.

Episode 4. The Mystery of the Terracotta Dog. A criminal turned state witness informs Montalbano of an arms stash in a cave just outside Vigata. Also uncovered in the cave is a secret chamber where the bodies of two lovers, killed sometime in the 1940s, were buried in a bizarre ritual. An intrigued Montalbano must challenge the Mafia and deal with the arms cache before he can investigate this second find.
Episode 5. Excursion to Tindari. A young Don Juan is found murdered in front of his apartment building and an elderly couple are reported missing after an excursion to the ancient site of Tindari. Inspector Montalbano tries to solve these two seemingly unrelated cases amid the daily complications of life at Vigata police station. But when he discovers that the couple and the murdered young man lived in the same building, his investigation stumbles onto Sicily's brutal 'New Mafia' and leads him down a path more twisted and far-reaching than any he has ever been down before.

Episode 6. The Artist's Touch. Goldsmith Alberto Larussa appears to have committed suicide by turning his wheelchair into an electric chair. But Inspector Montalbano discovers that the dead man's will, which leaves everything to his brother Giacomo, was forged. Giacomo is arrested, but he maintains that he did not kill Alberto. Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector Mimi' Augello is working on the case of a mysteriously-murdered electrician.
