I was so delighted with the artistic beauty, the cast, the story, the tenderness, the absolute breathtakingness of this film!! So happy it found me in the library we have here!!
good movie - there was a story --
I liked this Lebanese chick flick. The love stories of these women were realistic and they wove together well. The only thing I didn't like was the older lady's failure in finding love. This is the third Lebanese film I've seen in the last year and I am impressed with the stories and the scenery.
I happened to see this in the theater when it came out a few years ago, & I was just completely intoxicated with the beauty & tenderness of it...the only frame of reference I had at that time was 'Henry & June', where you just feel completely transported to a fantastically sensuous world. What I missed then & struck home especially hard now was the dedication at the end, 'to my Beirut'...a facet of the city that's deeply peaceful, innocent, concerned only with the struggle to live & love well. Wonderful film. CR
The individual stories of several women who work at a local beauty salon, as well as those of their customers, makes for a very enjoyable film. Covering such topics as infidelity, fading youth and latent lesbianism this little movie goes from hilarious comedy to poignant drama in a heartbeat.
A nice chick flick.
Directed by Nadine Labaki, who also starred in the film with heavy makeup and looking glamorous, this film is about women in modern-day Beirut trying to find love. Shot most in and around a beauty salon, it gives us a taste of what life is like in an, at least for me, unfamiliar part of the world. The film is also beautiful to look at too, although the video quality of this disc is only so-so. Recommended for fans of international cinema. Subtitles.
This is the second time I've seen "Caramel" and I enjoyed it. Gorgeously filmed in beautiful Bierut, the story explores many of the fears that women entertain. On second viewing I enjoyed many of the subtleties that I'd missed the first time.
bittersweet film. i would've loved some of the issues to be developed more with the characters...but enjoyed none the less..think of this as the lebanese version of love actually but without all the fake hollywood movie endings. A raw and real film.
Loved it! I am Lebanese and watching it made me home sick. It was cute and funny but sad at the same time
