Though Hopper is treated as a royal guest, he misses his siblings that he lost in the escape attempt. That, and Atlantia is constantly threatened by the rebels who wish to bring the city to its knees. And there are cats everywhere in Atlantia, cats that leave the citizens unharmed, and no one can seem to answer why. I fun junior book with a heroic fantasy feel about a pet store mouse that escapes to the sewers only to fall into a conflict between mice and rats. This one definitely had darker themes than I was expecting (refugee camps, genocide, dark politics) but it made for a compelling read with high stakes.

This book is awesome, and Lisa Fiedler is now one of my favorite authors! I love how she puts a lot of thought into the emotions of the rats and mice, and I also love the illustrations by Vivienne To!!!! I love this trilogy!!

I like the book.

A rousing adventure with just enough darkness to make the danger real and serious, with warring tribes of rats, mice, and cats, false utopias, royal conspiracies, prophecies, espionage, and vast underground realms. I found the book a bit slow and hard to get into at first, then was swept up in Hopper's journey from self-declared intellectual coward to mouse of action.
