I really enjoyed this book, but I felt that I started in the middle of a book, not at the start.
There are references that make it seem as though there is another book just prior about these two, but there isn't.
I think the expectation is that one will have read the other three books that are about Runach's brother and his companion, but since this book sounds like a stand alone book, I did not think Ineeded to do so. That was very off putting and I almost set it aside, but I persevered and enjoyed the read -except- it ended in the middle of the quest, so now I have to wait a year or more for the next one, by which time I will have forgotten most of the details of the characters in this one. ..

Love the Nine Kingdom series and hope there is at least one more. Feels like Ms Kurland has left it opened ended. The story doesnt seem to be complete. Will be watching for another book of the Nine Kingdom series
