For years, best friends Sarah and Jennifer kept what they called the "Never List": a list of actions to be avoided, for safety's sake, at all costs. But one night, against their best instincts, they accept a cab ride with grave, everlasting consequences. For the next three years, they are held captive with two other girls in a dungeon-like cellar by a connoisseur of sadism. Ten years later, at thirty-one, Sarah is still struggling to resume a normal life, living as a virtual recluse under a new name, unable to come to grips with the fact that Jennifer didn't make it out of that cellar. Now, her abductor is up for parole and Sarah can no longer ignore the twisted letters he sends from jail. Finally, Sarah decides to confront her phobias and the other survivors, who hold their own deep grudges against her. When she goes on a cross-country chase that takes her into the perverse world of BDSM, secret cults, and the arcane study of torture, she begins unraveling a mystery more horrifying than even she could have imagined.

Sarah and Jennifer are kidnapped by a sadistic psychopath named Jack...the tension and drama is created by what is not said but what is alluded to or made reference to.....very good book!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ten years ago Sarah and her best friend were abducted and imprisoned in a cellar already containing two other victims. Now, Sarah lives with the guilt of having escaped when Jennifer didn’t. News that the convicted abductor may be released prompts Sarah to contact the other survivors and set out on a search she hopes will lead to information about the whereabouts of Jennifer’s body but may lead her right into a trap. This book scared me straight out of my pants! Fair warning, it turned out to be something of a difficult read, not because it was terribly graphic, but because the author was so good at describing just enough for your imagination to take over and create some very dark places. The first half or so of the book is suspenseful, building relationships and understanding of the Sarah and the other victims. But as the Sarah starts to put the pieces together, surprises fall one right after the other…into a black hole that will make the calmest of readers feel chills. The Never List is a creepy thriller that will have readers reading all night…and wishing there was daylight.

Forgettable thriller about a group of girls held hostage by deranged professor. The story takes us to the present - ten years later - and the principle girl wonders what happened to her lifelong friend; she deserved a better fate. She then proceeds to go on a quest to find other clues that will help her and her friends in Oregon from keeping the kidnapper from being parole. At times, did not know where some of the interviews she conducts are going and she projects alot of self-pity into the main character and self -blaming in her main character that doesn't seem believable.

"Still struggling to live a normal life after years of torture at the hands of a sadistic kidnapper, Reeve LeClaire (new name, new face, years of therapy) reluctantly agrees to help with the rehabilitation of another rescued abductee, a young girl named Tilly -- only to discover that Tilly's abductor is not only still at large but still pursuing her. Armed with knowledge that Tilly has shared only with her (and not with the police), Reeve begins to investigate the predator's identity. If tales of victimised women who survive to help those in similar situations are your cup of tea, you're in luck. You can also try Others of My Kind by James Sallis." I am not usually one for real suspense, or for twisted tales, but I enjoy the occasional mystery and for whatever reason, this landed itself on my bedside table. Compelling, fast-paced, twisted, this novel will turn your stomach and make you wonder why you keep reading...but be forewarned, once you get going, you won't be able to stop midway.

Fast, exciting, well paced, highly enjoyable read. Kept me on the edge of my seat, literally. Kinda reminded me of that real life case of those three Puerto Rican women that were held captive for 10 yrs. in Ariel Castro's house of horrors.

I thought this book was a good read. I find that it does have that Gone Girl feel in that there are a lot of psychological twists and turns. I can honestly say that I did not see that ending coming. I will agree with the reader below that some of the text was wordy--some words I had to look up and I will also agree that some of the plot was a little far-fetched, but overall, the author did well.

Not especially well written or even a great plot but it does get your heart rate pumping and is perfect for a pre-Halloween scare.
