Q: "How would you feel if someone wanted to continue the Wolfe series after you laid aside your pen?

A: (by stout) I don't know whether vampirism or cannibalism is the better term for it. Not nice.
— Rex Stout, interviewed by biographer John J. McAleer"

I thoroughly enjoying this short novel. Made a very good bus read; short chapters easy to leave and get back into. I suppose I'm showing my age when I mention that in my mind, Tim Hutton is bringing depression area New York to life (I really enjoyed the A&E series; w/Maury Chaykin as Wolfe). If you enjoy the original series, you'll like this offering too.

Robert Goldsborough did a very believable job of telling the meeting of Nero Wolfe, and his (future) assistant Archie Goodwin. It had the flavor, and feel of the classic Rex Stout novel. The characters are shown in detailed trying to make a living in New York during the depression. The usual cast of remembered names and places makes this feel like a comfortable re-read of my favorite stories.
