Berkley Whitmore, forty-six and never married, runs Berkley's Chocolates & Gems in Salem, Massachusetts. Also an avid knitter, she owns two alpacas whose wool she turns into yarn. You'd think such an accomplished woman would also be a confident woman -- but Berkley doubts her ability to have a meaningful relationship.

Berkley moves to Cedar Key and opens "Berkley's Chocolates & Gems." While she's shy and self-conscious, the shop immediately does a good business, and helps her gain new friends. An English mystery writer is attracted to her, and helps her find the courage to learn the truth about her past. Another in this series about friendship and how it helps people. Upbeat is the name of the game in Du Long's Cedar Key.

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.

Truffle making, romance and soft island breezes make for a great summer read.
