Abe Lieberman is a police detective handling murder cases on the mean streets of Chicago. All of the characters are big compromisers. None of the characters are motivated to improve their neighbourhood, community, city, culture or country. I think that the author has adopted this writing style of stark reality to reflect the setting of Chicago and the American culture of self-interest. Consequently, I would rate "The Dead Don't Lie" at 3.50 stars.
