From the day she arrives at the Biltmore, Tillie Reese is dazzled - by the riches of the Vanderbilts and by Mack Danvers, a mountain man turned footman. When Tillie is enlisted to help tame Mack's rugged behaviour by tutoring him in the ways of refined society, the resulting sparks threaten Tillie's efforts to be chosen as Edith Vanderbilt's lady maid. But the stakes rise even higher when Mack and Tillie become entangled in a cover-up at the town orphanage. They could both lose their jobs...and their hearts.

A light and easy read. It was a perfect audio book while I was exercising and working.

Heart-warming. Thought-provoking. Honorable romance.

Not one of my favorites by Gist. Many of her books strictly romance and very surface when it comes to impacting leswsons. However, there was a good lesson that was communicated for followers of Christ (although it could have been more obviously stated) Sometimes the things we are striving so earnestly for are not all that (we think they are) It is better for us to yield to the direction that our Lord and Savior Jesus has for us. That is when we will find true fulfilment and purpose.

What I liked about this above all else was the realistic portrayal of the lives of the servant class, the advantages and the drawbacks of having one position over another in the servant ranks, what happened to orphans (potentially) and also how even a man's aspirations would be limited without a marriage license. And the romance was nice, too.

love this story it was one that really touched my heart strings. the story might have seemed simple but it had alot of really strong elements in it and man o man what a ride it was. i really felt like i was one the characters living in the community it made it all real.

I am in the middle of reading. This is defintely an adult book and not a young adult book . The themes of responsibilty , nobility and serious adult romance certain disqualify it as a Romance book . It cross the line from adult flirting and eroticism quietly and you read fast you miss it. I am certainly wondering if this is a inspirational book or more of an adult drama . I'll tell you when I find out.
