This version was relatively faithful to the book, in all its unsettling parts. Catherine was unhinged enough for me in this film (in the other one that I watched she was just capricious, not disturbed.)
I enjoyed this DVD very much! It was very victorian. The characters were quite extreme; but, that is how romance was written in those days. Good for all ages. Not too violent. No sex scenes.
Perhaps I should ACTUALLY read the book? So far, all these adaptations make this seem a rather bizarre work of obsession, with an unseemly emphasis on incest. (Well maybe NOT the William Wyler version--but that one seems excessively sanitized). What gives?
