Not a bad book but compared to Perdido Street Station and especially The Scar it seemed a bit lack-luster. Be sure you don't just hop into this book without reading the other two as he spends a lot of time building up the history and world of Bas Lag, which is pretty much taken for granted by this book.
The Garuda is a large mythical bird or bird-like creature that appears in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology.
The Chakri Dynasty (also known as the House of Chakri) is the current ruling royal house of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Head of the house is the King of Thailand.
Maybe I'll build a trebuchet, a siege engine that was employed in the Middle Ages, and throw a dictionary at your head.
The author says he writes "weird fiction", and he's right! A group of renegades are on a trek to find someone, and they are attacked, and they kill some things which could be people or animals. The author invents words for people and things, such as garuda, trebuchet, chakris, yet he has no imagination when it comes to swearing. His characters use the worn out "f" word on almost every page. I lost interest in the plot and did not finish.
