“The Bells of St. Mary’s” is one of those timeless movies that seem to exist in a bubble. If it had been made at another time, with different actors it would have been just so much corny sentimentality and sugary sweetness. Luckily for us it was made at just the right time with the perfect cast. Bergman is positively luminous in her role as Sister Benedict, and only Bing Crosby could have reprised the role of Fr. O’Malley with such effortless grace. We can forgive the film’s wide-eyed naiveté because it is just so well done, from the warm and cozy sets to the rich B&W cinematography. And that final scene has got to be among Hollywood’s top 100 tearjerkers.

Excellent performance, a good story. The nun is a champion of principles, confronting the priest's sensible compassion. I enjoy the witty, funny, thoughtful conversations from the kids, priest and nun.The nun is so beautiful with an angelic face. Meanwhile, the priest looks so innocent.
When the movie ends, I realize that "such old golden days" are gone. A must-see movie.
