One of my all-time favorite Halloween movies. It has everything from nods to classic horror, tongue-in-cheek commentary, and legitimately good and spooky writing.

When you read the description, this sounds like a B movie. In fact, Trick r Treat is a throwback to the soft horror anthology films of the 80's and 90's. And not in a cheesy-homage, over-the-top way either. The movie reminded me a lot of movies like Creepshow and Nightmare on Elm street and horror anthologies like Tales from the Darkside, the Twillight Zone. Only not as campy, for the most part. Each story takes place on the same night in the same town, and each of the stories blends into the others at various points. The tales are clever and don't over-rely on jump scares or gore. I'd definitely recommend watching, for horror and thriller fans alike.

Nowadays, there are so many horror films out there that are packed full of mindless gore, repetitive jump scares and no story. Trick R Treat is different. It's not a mindless blood fest, it doesn't have pointless nudity, and it isn't some shoddy remake of an original classic horror film It is not the scariest horror film ever written but it is the most thoughtful. There are twist that surprise throughout. This is why I rate it a 4 and do not recommend it for anyone under 14 years old

It's Halloween night and in one little Ohio town things are about to take a turn for the macabre as a practical joke winds up raising a short bus full of autistic ghouls, a homicidal school principal decides to teach his son the tricks of the trade, a young wife pays the price for extinguishing a jack'o'lantern too early, and an ersatz vampire falls in with a pack of real bitches. And what's with that little knife-wielding kid sporting the pumpkin head? In the same vein as 1982's "Creepshow", Michael Dougherty's little bag of tricks revels in its comic book roots with suitably cartoonish action, a bit of colourful gore, and a whole lot of spine-tingling silliness. His handful of separate stories cleverly segue into one other almost seamlessly bringing the whole film full circle, while a few witty monster references just add to the fun. The horror element may evoke more smiles than chills, especially for those of us who grew up on a diet of 80s slasher films, but Dougherty never claimed he was producing a masterpiece.

I echo Jazeebelle's sentiments in that I also loved this movie. A terrific anthology type film that's best viewed around the Halloween season. My favorite character is the Little Pumpkin guy himself as I found him the most interesting. Has some very humorous dialogue as well such as the kid in the house referring to Charlie Brown as an a**hole! lol I loved how each tale intertwined into what I found to be a fitting conclusion and made a lot of sense. But you'll have to view this a few times to see where everything comes together in a neat little Halloween package.

i LOVE love LOVE this movie. It's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously, yet isn't stupid and insulting to your intellegence. "Sam" is the most adorable creature ever. The stories are well thought out and flow together well. And there are a few down right creepy things about it.

Didn't finish it. Crude and silly.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.
