This is a book full of laughter, happiness and depression. It can really explain how Elsie is feeling and is a very brilliant and detailed book.

At 14, Erin knows exactly what she wants: to be good enough to follow in the footsteps of her father and grandfather and become the principal French Horn player in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Her aim is to be the youngest student accepted into the Shining Birches Summer Music Camp. However, one of the application requirements is "ensemble diversity", so she has joined the marching band at her school. There are no French Horns in this band so she's forced to begin all over with the mellophone and she hates every minute of the first few weeks. Elsie also discovers that her social skills are lacking, as she struggles to become part of an ensemble, instead of a lone musician. After her French Horn teacher quits due to family illness, Elsie is certain that her dreams of getting into Shining Birches are gone. Finally she realizes that it's up to her to find a replacement teacher and to learn how to be a real member of the marching band. Reviewed by BPL volunteer LS.
