Suggest to watch "Lion" which is a 2016 biographical drama film starring Dev Patel based on this 2013 non-fiction book by Saroo Brierley: https://sccl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S118C543602

Living in a poor Indian neighborhood with his mother and three siblings, Saroo was often left to fend for himself, begging neighbors for food and taking care of his little sister, even though he was only five years old himself. One…

This memoir was originally titled A Long Way From Home, until it was made into a movie a few years back starring Dev Patel. It's about a 5 year old boy who inadvertently gets onto a train headed to Calcutta from his home hundreds of miles…

I read this book in one day for my job (Library Reader's Group/Book Discussion). Couldn't put it down. One of my favorite chapters was Chapter 9 where Saroo writes, in part, "There it was!" Once you get to this point in the book, you'll…

Such an incredible story. I highly recommend it. Also, a good education on how a large number of our sisters and brothers are living in abject poverty. Let's do something to fix this.

Saroo Brierley's unusual journey - from one family to another and back again - is one that deserves to be memorialized in book form. I enjoyed the story and found it to be interesting, enlightening, and heartwarming. The most emotional…

I highly recommend both the powerful film and this book it was based on. Although the film is remarkably faithful to the book, there's even more detail here. It is an easy but compelling read.

The story in this memoir is what the wonderful 2016 film Lion, starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, and Sunny Pawar, is all about. Saroo, a 5-yr old Indian boy, born into abject poverty, boards a train, thinking his older…

Wow, I really got caught up in this story. It reminds me of lines from "Amazing Grace"--"I once was lost, but now am found." The book makes you see just how vast the world is, and how easy it is to get lost in that vastness. And it also…

This is the story of little Saroo who gets lost in the streets of crowded Kolkata. How he got to Kolkata is in itself a story. Saroo is fortunate to be adopted by Sue and John Brierley and moves to Australia. He grows up in idyllic…

Great book. Kept me engaged from start to finish. Often autobiographies will have parts that are dull and I skim over but not Lion. Enjoyed all of it.

This was a great book, definitely a quick read, and a truly inspiring story! The only issue I had, was near the end there was a portion of the book that was cumbersome with the names of the cities and towns where Saroo was searching, it…
