When Bertrand Russell was jailed (for the first time), the jailer asked him what his religion was, for their records. Russell replied that he was an agnostic. The jailer asked how to spell that, and then said there were many religions, but…

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving, control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist,…

Dawkins does an excellent job of debunking religion and pointing out how detrimental it is to progressive movement in the world, especially in nations which repress half their population with strictures for how they are allowed to manage…

I really enjoyed this book and found great truth in these sentiments: 1. Trumps name could be substituted for God in the title. 2. The author refers to Christian fundamentalists in the US as the American Taliban 3. I would like to…

For any readers out there who have ever had any really serious doubts about the overall validity of Christianity - Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" certainly does its best to shake religious beliefs right down to their very…

In "The God Delusion" confirmed atheist and noted scholar, Richard Dawkins, literally, comes out fighting and through his well-researched narrative he reveals more faults and flaws within Christian and Islamic religions than there are…

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. Without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” Steven Weinberg 1933-…

I've read the outline. I've watched interviews. Jesse Bering is closer to the truth. A rare statement.

What a great, thoughtful book! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I know this book and author had stirred up some consternation from some of the religious among us, and I expected the book to be more harsh and negative, but actually it was…

I enjoyed this book shortly after it was released and credit it with taking me from mostly agnostic to full fledged atheist.

Fantastic book! I'm not new to the subject and I thought I'd be bored. I disagree with the commenters who believe Dawkins is disrespectful to believers--he simply gives his opinion, but isn't hateful at all. A must read for anyone who's…

Dawkins covers very wordily the subject of the possibility that there is a God and his own atheism well, but also seems defensive, making a major issue of it, particularly at the end of the book where he delves into the history of…

Richard Dawkins’ unapologetic defence of his beliefs, often in the face of vicious attacks, is refreshing and inspirational (some thoughtless reader was even spurred to write rude (and ignorant) comments into the library book that I…

atheism is the new fundamentalism/extremism. True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing. He who knows not and knows not he knows not, he is a fool—shun him.

it isn't God who says its ok for doctors and women to collude in birthing infants only to rip them from limb to limb and crush their skulls, so that those women can claim it was righteous to do so, for, ' it is (was) my body, and i get to…

Time for Christianity (and religion as a whole) to go the way of Hercules and Zeus. We have 150 years of research from multiple branches of science that prove humans evolved from an ape ancestor. To deny evolution is to deny Biology,…

When the subject of the "anthropic principle" vs the "ontological principle" comes up, I just sigh and screen out the pro and con religious "philosophical" noise. I'm a physicist with a PhD from a top 5 physics school, and almost all of…

Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby. ... Atheism is simply not believing in any of the thousands of gods humans have imagined over the millennia. Of course, one cannot prove a negative, but eventually,…

Richard Dawkins is undoubtedly well read and knowledgeable that he turns an incredibly controversial and difficult topic into a relatively easily understood and balanced analysis. One can understand why many dislike his work and…

Like many, I attended Sunday School through my youth. I recall asking more questions during confirmation classes than most of my peers. When I was still in high school, roughly sixty years ago, I read Malinowski’s "Magic, Science, and…

I listened, or rather, tried to listen to this book on CD, but the holier-than-thou, and smugness of the author and other narrators turned my off so badly that I only listened to 2 cds. Maybe a better book to read rather than listen to.

Me thinks he dost protest too much. People of religion are bad and atheists are good. His opinion is just that, an opinion.
