This book is quite the easy read, yet it contains an exciting and sweet story. The illustrations are great, and you will find yourself admiring every one of Lady Crystallia's beautifully illustrated dresses. With a heartwarming surprise twist at the end, this book is chock full of sweet moments. I would definitely recommend!

Sure to bring smiles all around, Jen Wang's self-contained titles follows the title characters on a route to discover themselves and their place in a world that looks like it might not have one for them. Also, they make great friends.
The plot rockets along, a known problem of the format, but the art serves it up perfectly and the arc is so theatrical that it's a perfect fit for the animated musical I hear someone is making out of it. It's a fast and memorable rollercoaster where you leave your disbelief at the door and enjoy the ride meant to make you smile wide.

This was the most adorable graphic novel I’ve ever read. Y’know when they say some stories need to be graphic novels? That the story itself wouldn’t be the same without the interplay between the words and the illustrations? This is 100% one of those cases. The art that Jen Wang has created brings her story to such vivid life that it makes me feel that I personally know Sebastian and Frances. I absolutely loved seeing Frances’ creations come to life; the dresses and style of the art complement each other perfectly and are SO amazing.

The core story here is one of acceptance, of finding yourself and coming to terms with who you are. Lady Crystallia/Sebastian has a storyline that made my eyes prick with tears multiple times, and Frances (my dear sweet little Frances) was so wonderfully coming to terms with valuing herself and her art alongside him. I love that we see this cross-dressing character with parents who *spoiler* ultimately support him. That fashion show at the end was absolutely ICONIC.

I recommend this to anyone. It’s a light, fun read without being so sweet as to make you sick. It feels grounded enough to lessen what could have been too much lightness, and the story moves quickly enough to easily devour in one sitting. I absolutely loved it.

I absolutely loved this story. The cover art caught my eye immediately, so I had to check it out on my Kindle. Sebastian and Frances' characters are likable and relatable, the story is lovely, and the subject matter is relevant and written with respect and care. I think the most wonderful part about this story is that the two characters bring out the best in each other. In the end, we learn that being your true self is all that matters and I love how this is celebrated within the story. Really a great, quick, beautifully illustrated, book.

Just lovely! Wonderful art, great story line. Can't wait to see what the Andersons do to make it into a musical!

This whole book is absolutely adorable. Maybe not realistic for what would have historically happened, but it's hopeful and cute. I loved every moment of it.

I loved this graphic novel, and I zoomed through the whole thing in an hour or two. The characters were adorable, and I loved the twists that came up. It was also visually gorgeous!

My new favourite genre - Graphic Novels! Who says adults can't enjoy a book with pictures. A cute story about two individuals brought together by unusual circumstances and that being yourself if where it is at!

This book was so beautifully written and illustrated. I honestly thought this would be a fairy tale when I first picked it up (I like to be surprised with the contents of the books I read, so sometimes I read as little about it as possible before reading it), but it actually turned out to be way better. It illustrates identity, understanding, and embracing one's self despite how the world views you (and the journey that it takes to get to that level of self acceptance). It does such a wonderful job of illustrating deep love. I'm really glad this was a Georgia Peach Book Award nominee title as I think the book heals and touches the soul.

This wasn't as good as I expected it to be. For some reason, my own fault I'm sure, I thought it was going to be more of a fairy tale. It isn't. It's a dramatic story telling, and if you approach it that way it's a good story. The art is amazingly detailed and expressive, and is definitely the stand-out feature of the book. The story itself just left me feeling like they were leaving something out of it. I wanted a little more backstory, or resolution, or something! It's good. Not great.

I found this gem on a cart in the back, after pulling it, both Hannah Jane and
Alison raved about it. After finishing the book in one evening, I completely
understood. It tells the story of a young prince who is facing many more issues
than he would like to admit. He confides his love for wearing dresses to his
newly hired dressmaker. Through this secret, the two are able to build trust,
and share their deepest dreams with one another. This was such a sweet story
with a modern twist to the times. If you are looking for something quick, and
similar vibe to a Disney princess story, check this one out!

Brilliant. The Prince and the Dressmaker is fun, funny, and inspiring. Both the plot and its conflict are a very serious and realistic, but the art style and dialogue make lighten it up and create a fascinating and heartwarming novel.

I'm giving this book a big thumbs up! First off I loved the plot line of this book. In this book a Prince named Sebastian secretly hires a dressmaker. Sebastian hires Frances after witnessing a Princess wear one of her DARING designs to a ball, only if Frances works for him, nobody can ever know that she is designing for ROYALTY. Nobody can know that the crowned Prince Sebastian is actually a CROSS DRESSER! I absolutely adored this graphic novel, and was so impressed by the artwork. Jen Wang did an amazing job of capturing a wide range of emotions in her drawings. There was a few panels of drawings in particular that really sold me because she managed to capture Sebastian's complete look of DREAD just by adding a few extra lines around his eyes. Jen Wang is a very talented artist. Another thing I loved about this Graphic novel is of course the clothing, because this book is about a dress maker and a cross dressing Prince, you better believe there are some jaw dropping costumes and amazing floral prints through out this book. I almost wish this Graphic Novel was longer, just so I could see Jen Wang come up with a couple more Costumes for Sebastian's alter ego, Lady Crystallia.

This is impressive! A good plot, it doesn't drag out the story, weakening it and the art is BRILLANT!

I am so incredibly glad that I picked this up! I read a few graphic novels in elementary school but none of them were as quality as this one, so I'm going to say this is my first graphic novel! And I loved it.

The artwork/drawings (I'm not sure the correct terminology yet) were phenomenal, they were very detailed and it was very easy to detect expressions from the characters (without looking at the words).

THE STORY WAS SO CUTE THOUGH. Ah I loved it so much. I loved the secrecy at first that he was her client but he didn't want to reveal himself to her because he was afraid. Then as the story went on he became more and more comfortable in his own skin. Frances & Sebastian's friendship was precious, I couldn't tell if they were really more than friends... like they kissed but I'm not really sure what that means. It doesn't really make a difference to me because I just loved their dynamic. Also the ending where the King joins in the fashion show type thing was truly incredible and I honestly wasn't expecting it. I was expecting more just a support from the audience type of vibe but no, it was all out "I am doing this with you because you're my son and I love you."

This was just overall so adorable of a story. It was a perfect first graphic novel for me and a great Pride Month read ️‍

I loved this book! It is great for any age. The pacing is fantastic and you really get a feel for the characters within the story. The illustrations are beautiful. One of our main characters is nonbinary and it is a great representation of being enby. As small aside: It is clear the illustrator loves designing clothing as well and the designs had me grinning from ear to ear!

Graphic Novels can be hit or miss for me, as sometimes it can be difficult to fully develop a plot in condensed conversation bubbles. This book is not only hands down, my new favorite Graphic Novel, but also one of the greatest "feel good" stories I've ever read! By day, he is Prince Sebastian. By night, he is Lady Crystallia, the hottest fashion icon in Paris; all thanks to his brand new Seamstress who has a special eye for making beautiful things for beautiful people. It's a romantic fairy tail of a modern sort, that tells a story of identity, acceptance, friendship, and family.

This is a good book, and one of my favourites. Without even going into the social aspects of it, or inclusion, etc., it's just a good book.

The Prince and the Dressmaker is a lovely, refreshing take on the traditional fairy tale. An affirming story about self-identity, confidence, friendship, and love, this story speaks to all of us who have dreamed to be more, but felt like we needed to compromise our vision. Watching both Frances and Sebastian grapple with who they are and what is important to them is fun, but the climax is what really elevates this tale and makes it sublime. At that moment, I felt such deep yearning for this to be real history, and such resolve to make the present live up to this lofty vision.
