Gravitational Wave Astronomy Through A Blackfoot Lens

Join the Stanwood Library and our friends at the Community Resource Center of Stanwood-Camano for a journey connecting the Blackfoot language and culture to gravitational wave astronomy. Corey Gray, with a cast of characters including Albert Einstein, a pair of black holes, 1200 scientists, the Nobel Prize, and his own mother, deliver information and insight on a scientific event a century in the making (actually 1.3 billion years)! The first direct detection of gravitational waves in 2015 made history and changed lives.

Corey Gray is Scottish & Blackfoot and a member of the Siksika Nation of Alberta, Canada. He grew up in southern California and received Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Humboldt State University (HSU). Corey worked as a Detector Operator on the CalTech astronomy project LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory) in Washington State, building and operating gravitational wave detectors.
